Special Events

From time to time Special Events, either Club originated or by outside bodies, take place at which Rotarians play a key role.

Events of this nature include the following some of which, of course, come into different areas of Club activity and arranged by different committees within the Club.

  • Sponsored Lecture

Thurso Rotary Club has tried to bring quality speakers to the town to give a lecture on a topic of interest to Rotarians and the general public alike.  Early lectures were taken from the University of Aberdeen programme prepared by Donald Omand but in recent years the club has sought its own speakers.

Two recent talks arranged by Rotarian John Hook were given on the extreme sports of mountaineering and Antarctic exploration.

  • Hogmanay Party

  • Thurso Town Improvements Association - Gala Procession, Banger Derby, etc.

  • Round Table Street Fayre and Round Table High School Fayre

Thurso Rotary Club always gave support to Round Table at their Fayres by providing a non profit making stall which would be attractive to youngster.

Thurso Rotary took their usual stall at Thurso Round Table Fayre 2006.  The three Rotarians in the picture (Allan Lannon, Simon Middlemas and Gordon MacLachlan) plus Rotarian Bob Earnshaw (taking the pic) were at this fundraising stall.  On the second left can be seen Rotarian Graeme Dunnett who was in attendance to help Round Table in his final year with that club before they put him out to grass.
