Our Club works with many local organisations to help, support and deliver on more localised projects. Those include the Thurso Town Improvements and the local Caithness Area of Highland Council. Below is a floral display, beautifully produced by local council gardeners, on Thurso Riverside, to celebrate the 100 years of Rotary with the work initiated by the Thurso Club.
We help and support many local charities financially and also operationally by marshalling and helping at local events.
The committee has organised and helped at a variety of events over the years. Here are just a few that come readily to mind:
The Round Table Fireworks and Bonfire for November 5th.
Scrabster Fair for the Seamens' mission
The Thurso Lifeboat Fair
The CountyShow
Thurso Hogmanay Party
Christmas visits to Thurso Care Homes with the Interact Club
And in May 2009 the Club will be assisting at the Castle of Mey 10k Run.
A list of groups assisted by way of financial donations in 2007-2008 can be found on the Club News Page and pictures can be accessed through the Archive Page links.
Youth Opportunities is a major part of the work of the International and Vocational Committee. Much of that work is recorded on the Youth Communities page.
The most recent project is the annual Primary School Quiz which has been held in Mount Pleasant, Pennyland and Miller Academy Primary Schools and is next sceduled for 24th February 2009 for Halkirk Primary School.
This is the group of participants from the 2008 quiz at Pennyland:
